An incredible display at the Rec Saturday just gone saw Hoole come away with a defeat however, they deserved at least a draw as a makeshift Hoole side consisting of players over 45, and 1 player in their 50s Hoole ran title chasing Preston Wanderers all the way.
With 45 Mins to kick off, and only 8 names on the team sheet. Martin Airy handed a debut to himself up front. Dan France took up the position between the sticks, Dan Case was dragged out of his at 14:10, Lobby started on the wing and a 1 Legged Taylor lead the line.
Hoole were brilliant, defending for their lives, reducing Wanderers to shots from 35 yards. Every cross into the box being dealt with by the impressive Gary Hughes and Liam Moylenuex.
They took a deserved lead in the 27th min, when the brilliant Dave Tynan picked up the ball from 30 yards out and gave the keeper no chance into the top corner, a late goal of the season contender.
A team like Wanderers, who whilst going for the league title, were always going to come out swinging in the 2nd half, and despite pulling a goal back in the 50th Min. They never really looked like scoring. Hoole had a few chances, Andrew Taylor who was injured throughout, pulling up trees up front. A point would have been a fair result.
Yet, with only a couple of mins to play, Wanderers took the lead when to be fair a horrible ball to defend came over the top and somehow a Preston player got a foot over it to send it over the line.
Top Performance all in all. Mom for Dave Tynan who’s goal was stunning, but in reality, any of the start 11 could have got it.
1 More game to go. Newman at home! Up the Hoole!
