Heyside Juniors Under 10's 1 vs 4 Cheshire Boys U10's A

After the superb display from the first game we were hoping of more of the same from the A Team.

The game started brightly with Heyside trying to get on the ball quickly but it became clear after 10 minutes that nothing was going right,the passing got sloppy,the marking went out of the window and the team looked like they have never played together before.

The first goal(which was always going to come from Cheshire Boys) was Heysides own doing for failing to clear the ball and it was swept into the bottom corner of Harry's net. Everyone seemed to blame each other and no-one wanted to take the responsibility.

Amazingly the lads got it together and got a quick equiliser with Alex lofting the ball over the keepers head from long range.

A few minutes later Cheshire quickly broke into Heysides half and were bearing down on goal until Adam who had chased back slid in and rashly brought down the attacker,the referee pointed to the penalty spot to the dismay of the players as it was clearly yards outside the box.

After a lengthy delay due to the tackle (which we were glad to see that the Cheshire Boys attacker rose to his feet),the lad then steadied himself and smashed the ball home to give Cheshire a deserved half-time lead.

The lads were told at half time that the effort they were putting in wasn't good enough and they needed to pressure the ball quicker and get their passing going.

Not so sure that they listened to this as they carried on the same way as they did in the first half.

Half hearted tackles,panicking when in good positions too many going for the ball and not tracking runners,no control and everyone complaining at each other !!

Heyside nearly made it 2-2 against the run of play with Hayden slotting the ball through to Adam who should have took more time with his shot,again rushing the chance which hit the outside of the post with the goalie rooted to the spot.

Seconds later and it was all over as Cheshire again cut open Heysides midfield and defence with ease,Liam Josh and Luke were at sixes and sevens and this gave Harry no chance with the third goal. Heads were down and the fourth goal came very quickly and way too easy.

We beat ourselves today as too many players were reluctant to put a shift in. We have to remember that we don't rely on any individual we play as a team,we are not bothered as team coaches as regards to winning or losing just putting the effort in is all we ever ask, this certainly did not show today. We had a really good training session last Wednesday but none of the team put this into practice today.

We have a break now until next week so we are hoping the lads can bounce back from this sloppy display and get back to the way that we all know they can play.
