Today’s visitors for our Open Cup second round match were Solihull Academy from the premier division.
Unfortunately the Reds were down to 12 players today, with Jack and Kielan injured, Rushy away and Fin poorly, so we were up against it before the game has kicked off.
I won’t go into the details of the game, as there were no surprises and we just take it on the chin as the difference in divisions showed, with Solihull having a lot of power and pace, impossible for us to handle today but hats off to the boys, they fought hard and could easily have given up after 20 minutes but didn’t.
I don’t think the ref helped us much and could have applied some common sense because he didn’t need to award that penalty (which they missed anyway) and should’ve blown the final whistle before they scored the 8th goal rather than waiting for them to score.
However, we get back to our level next week in the divisional cup second round.
Today’s man of the match, with a string of really excellent saves to keep the score in single figures, was Harrison. Tough day to be a goalkeeper but he certainly played his part and should be proud of his efforts.
