Greenock HSFP Black progressed through to the West Region Cup last 16 with a convincing win against Division 2 side Yoker Athletic.

The opening stages of the first half were evenly contested, although the High School probably edged it in terms of chances created. Kaiden went close twice early on, both efforts well saved by the Yoker keeper, while Dylan narrowly missed the target from close range. Mure was a constant threat down the wing, causing problems whenever he got on the ball.

The breakthrough came on 15 minutes. A high cross from Mure found Dylan arriving at the back post, and he reacted quickest to volley home for 1-0.

Then the floodgates opened on 25 mins with Kaiden scoring four goals in just six minutes.

• The first came after a great run from Mure, cutting inside and forcing a save, with Kaiden quickest to react to the rebound.

• The second was a great run and finish after a nice over the top from Bob.

• The third was a touch tap-in following another Mure cut-back.

• The fourth was assisted by a Lyle ball over the top, with Kaiden driving through 1v1 and finishing confidently once again.

A crazy six-minute spell left Yoker shell-shocked and this effectively killed the tie, with the High School ruthless in front of goal. 5-0 at half-time.

Plenty of changes were made at the break, but the tempo didn’t drop. Three substitutes combined immediately, with Ethan and Kieran linking up before a ball over the top released Aaron, who got there first to knock it past the keeper. Unselfish play from Mure to let the ball roll in made it 6-0.

To their credit, Yoker responded with a strong spell, applying pressure and forcing a couple of errors to pull two goals back. Fair play to them for keeping going. 6-2.

Kieran wrapped up the scoring with a typical individual goal, skinning two defenders before firing into the far bottom corner. 7-2 FT.

A decent cup tie, but comfortable overall against a side a division below us. That strong six-minute spell in the first half proving decisive.
