Burgess Hill Town Juniors 1 vs 0 Furngate Hawks U16

With Brian, Alex and Oli L making their debuts we finally had a team to put out against a side that have always caused us problems in the past.

We replaced a forward with a CDM based on some feedback from players that we needed more cover in front of the back 3.

We looked near and tidy on the ball, worked hard all over the park and altho we went a goal down there was never a thought from Kaysha and I that we would get beat.

Nobody had a bad game, we were industrious and continually won the ball back.

However, some recurring patterns emerged:

1. Not enough names put on the ball when going for it. Meaning 2 Furngate players compete for the same ball

2. Not releasing the ball early enough

3. Losing the ball in the middle of the park unnecessarily

4. Forwards runs not early enough / lines are in front of the ball carrier

Some clear positives:

1. Connor and Toby got shots away

2. Underhit passes didn’t happen

3. No defensive / GK errors costing goals

We will bounce back from this blip and although I appreciate everyone’s ideas on formations / set up / starting XI / roles in the game, there are 2 very clear things that need to happen:

1. Do what the coaches ask of you BETTER rather than change anything

2. Create an environment on the pitch that makes team mates feel safe that they can make a mistake

Great to be back, shame about the result, the ref was shit, we should grow from this
