Fossoway belatedly got their 2019/20 season off to a start by travelling to Windygates to visit Greig Park Rangers.

The sun was shining brightly, and the major difference between the two sides (despite Foss missing 5 players who would have been in contention) was the fitness of the home side who had got 2 League games under their belt already.

The early pace was set by Greig Park who maintained the tempo for large periods forcing a succession of corners, having a header cleared off the line and a goal disallowed for offside.

At the other end, Foss were trying hard to find their momentum and a low effort by Andrew Reade tested the host keeper's handing in the 16th minute.

The defence was being tested but found keeper Mark Robertson, and central defensive pairing Bertie Gonsales and Kieran Wilson on top of their game to repel the danger. But the hosts also, with sharper strikers could have done better with the chances that fell their way in the opening 45 minutes.

The deadlock was finally broken on 54 minutes when the Greig Park substitute heading in at the far post.

Foss came more into the game and were able to break down the GPR attacks, and with only a single goal in it, the game was still there for the taking for either side.

Efforts for Liam Murray with a cross-shot and Charlie Marshall were the best the visitors could manage as the home side's fitness was showing, whilst at the other end, Robertson was doing his best with some outstanding goalkeeping.

Despite the home side dominating the possesion and having the best of the chances, it was a hard working performance from Fossoway in the sweltering heat, even more so with key players missing throughout the spine of the team and some of them still not at full fitness from injuries.

With a few players back and a couple more games under their belts, the team are more than capable of upping their game.

But with the events of the passing of Chairman Sandy Fraser last week, it's been a emotional and difficult week for all at the club and hopefully he would have appreciated the effort displayed today by his team.
