EKFC 09s Gold Put Up Brave Fight But Fall to Higher-Division Rossvale in High-Scoring Cup Encounter
On 7 February 2026, EKFC 09s Gold β clear underdogs as a side from a lower division β made the trip to High Park to take on a Rossvale team competing one division above them in a competitive cup tie. The match, which kicked off at 11:00am, ended in a 7-3 victory for the home side after an entertaining, end-to-end 90 minutes plus added time.
EKFC 09s Gold deployed a 4-1-4-1 formation, aiming for defensive structure with a holding midfielder protecting the back four and four attacking midfielders supporting the lone forward. Ross McNab started in goal, with Steve Graham and Stephen Orr at right and left full-back. Lewis Sime and Max Graham anchored central defence, Andrew Hall sat as the defensive midfielder, while Alfie Hall and Jay Ralston took the wide attacking midfield spots and Daniel Friel and Mitchell Tennant operated centrally. Callum Kerr led the line up front. The bench featured Matthew Henderson, Shay Christie, and Joshua OβBrien.
The underdogs made a dream start, stunning their higher-division opponents early. In the 8th minute, Andrew Hall opened the scoring, slotting home with his right foot inside the box after a precise cross from Callum Kerr. Rossvale threatened, but EKFC goalkeeper Ross McNab produced a superb penalty save in the 18th minute to preserve the lead.
EKFC doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute when Daniel Friel finished calmly inside the area, assisted by a tidy short pass from Alfie Hall. At 2-0, the visitors looked capable of causing a major upset, but Rossvale β showing their division advantage β began to assert themselves. A powerful strike from distance in the 42nd minute pulled one back for the hosts, giving them momentum heading into half-time.
An injury forced an early change, with Matthew Henderson replacing Daniel Friel before the break. EKFC held a 2-1 lead at the interval.
The second half saw Rossvale's superior quality and fitness shine through. They equalised in the 50th minute and took the lead for the first time just four minutes later. EKFC responded admirably in the 58th minute, with Andrew Hall netting his second of the game following a clever flick from Callum Kerr inside the box to make it 3-2.
However, the higher-division side's relentless pressure told. EKFC faced mounting disciplinary challenges, with Lewis Sime booked for unsporting behaviour in the 60th minute. Tactical changes followed, as Shay Christie replaced Callum Kerr and Joshua OβBrien came on for Jay Ralston.
Rossvale capitalised, scoring again in the 65th minute before extending their lead with further goals in the 70th and 74th minutes. EKFC's afternoon worsened when Lewis Sime received a second yellow card in the 76th minute, reducing his side to ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Ross McNab pulled off another outstanding penalty save in the 77th minute to deny Rossvale from the spot and keep the scoreline from ballooning further.
Rossvale added a final goal in the 91st minute (deep into injury time) to complete a 7-3 win and secure their cup progression. EKFC's goals came from Andrew Hall (brace) and Daniel Friel, highlighting moments of real quality from the underdogs against tough opposition.
Ross McNab was heroic in goal with two penalty saves, earning player of the match honours despite the defeat. The game was a thrilling showcase of attacking football, but Rossvale's clinical edge and higher-division experience ultimately proved decisive. Credit to EKFC 09s Gold for competing so bravely and scoring three excellent goals against a stronger side β a performance full of pride despite the result.
