Nicolls XI 3 - 3 Cowie Thistle

Cowie won 2-0 on penalties

Cowie were made to work hard today, coming from behind 3 times before eventually progressing to the next round on penalties

Cowie started the better and had a few half chances including hitting the post through R Cozzy before against the run of play in the 20th minute Nicolls took the lead when the ball was given away in defence and the striker cut in from the right and finished well.

Cowie equalised 2 minutes later when a deep cross from Cran was spilled by the home keeper and GAZELLE was on hand to finish from 6 yards.

Much of the rest of the 1st half was even until just on half time Cowie conceded a penalty and the Nicolls player scored high into the top corner.

Cowie made it 2-2 5 minutes into the second half when R Cozzy did well to win the ball back in the centre circle and played through LOVICK who ran in on goal and finished into the bottom corner.

This should’ve been the boost Cowie needed to go and dominate the game and whilst they were alway on top, Nicolls looked threatening on the break, with Jarvie making a couple of good saves before they took the lead for the 3rd time with 5 minutes to go when again the ball was given away in defence and the striker took advantage to give Jarvie no chance.

The team however didnt give up and went straight up the park to make it 3-3 when another cross from Cran found LOVICK at the back post and he headed past the keeper.

Onto penalties and what can only be described as one of the worst penalty shoot outs ever seen!

Nicolls missed all 4 penalties, Jarvie saving 3.

McDonald and A Cozzy missed for Cowie but thankful Scott Watson and Lovick scored for a 2-0 victory.

As always with cup games doesn’t matter how you win, as long as you get through, not the best performance but credit to Nicolls who played a lot better than their lowly position suggests
