A disappointing start to the season as an under strength Cowie were defeated by newly promoted Echt at home today.

With 7 new signings in the line up it was a much changed Cowie from last year but the team started well in a even first half hour with few chances for each side before Echt opened the scoring from a header, despite the loud claims for offside.

5 minutes after half time Echt scored a second when it looked like Pashley was fouled but nothing was given and the striker finished well.

Cowie responded with a goal straight away though when a good team move saw Gazelle lay the ball off to SMITHY who finished into the bottom corner from the edge of the box for 2-1.

With Cowie looking to get back into the game, 10 minutes later their hopes were effectively ended when Rum was shown a straight red card for a push on an Echt defender, retaliation after the defenders straight legged tackle which he got away with.

As Cowie pushed to get an equaliser even with 10 men Echt secured the win when from a free kick the ball was headed home with around 15 minutes to play and they saw the rest of the game out comfortably.

A tough start for the team but the effort from each player could not be faulted, with some impressive debuts from a couple of players, there just wasn’t much options to change when the legs became tired.
