Cowie kicked off the new season with 3 points after a superb battling performance away to Cove.

Cowie were forced into an early reshuffle when stand-in keeper Peco was forced off with injury after 20 minutes and centre half McCombie had to go in.

It didn’t disrupt Cowie though and playing up the Cove slope had a couple of half chances to take the lead but it was 0-0 at half time.

As the game threatened to boil over with some swinging elbows and punches going unnoticed, Cowie took the lead when Jozzas wayward cross was deflected into the path of Irv who beat the keeper to the ball and made it 1-0.

From then on Cowie battled and defended as a team, whilst always looking dangerous when attacking and got their reward when a long kick from McCombie went all the way through to Irv who volleyed it home for 2-0.

Cowie had further chances to extend the lead but couldn’t find the finish and the game finished 2-0 for a deserved win.

This was an excellent performance by all involved and a good way to start the season off, carrying on the momentum from last seasons cup win.
