Cowie made it through to the 2nd round of the AFC Trophy but not after making hard work of beating Continental today.

Playing with the strong wind in the first half Cowie looked to take an early lead but wasteful finishing and good goalkeeping kept it at 0-0, this included a missed penalty from Lovick and then an open goal from the same player and Cowie were almost caught on the break a couple of times but Jarvie made good saves.

Eventually Cowie made it 1-0 on the half hour when IRV cut in from the left and finished from outside the box, then 5 minutes later it was 2-0 when CRAN scored from 25 yards into the top corner.

Continental started the 2nd half looking to get back into the game and were handed a great chance when S Watson gave away a stonewall penalty in the first minute which was converted for 2-1.

Cowie went straight back up the park and made it 3-1 when LOVICK eventually scored after a goalmouth scramble, but even that needed a big deflection to go in!

Continental were awarded another penalty in the 55th minute for an off the ball incident at a corner and again it was converted for 3-2.

Cowie made subs to try and provide some urgency to the play and it paid off when first Buck set up IRV for a tap in on the line in the 70th minute and then a minute later BUCK made it 5-2 with a volley from inside the box.

Continental got a 3rd in the 75th minute but that was the end of the scoring as Cowie saw out the game comfortably.

A case of job done, playing conditions didn’t help but the whole team know they can play much better, and will have to against Kincorth next week in the NOS quarter final.
