South City F.C. 3 vs 2 Clapham Common FC

The Commoners bowed out of our London Jnr Cup QF after a good battle down at Wimbledon Common Extensions.

McManus got us off to the perfect start, converting a Payne throw-in in the early stages. He could have had another moments later as a Wallis challenge left him through on goal, with the South City keeper getting down well to keep his effort out.

SCFC then settled into the game, and drew level as a corner went straight into the net at the back post. South City then had their best spell, though it was Clapham Common who had the next big chance - Stanton rattling the bar from 20 yards. Around the 25-minute mark a good ball forward for the opposition fell neatly between our centrebacks and keeper, and was converted for 2-1.

South City at this point were firmly on the front foot, and minutes later added a third as their unmarked forward converted another corner kick, this time with an audacious bicycle kick into the net. The Commoners shifted formation slightly and went in at half time 1-3 down.

Second half we came out fighting and pushed for a goal - the South City keeper again forced into action, though it was end to end stuff at this point. Eventually we added a second, a perfectly placed Payne free kick headed home brilliantly by our captain Stanton. We pushed for an equaliser but it just wasn't to be - the end result back-to-back cup defeats.
