AFC Croydon Athletic U12 F 2 vs 1 Chipstead Youth Under 12 W

Chipstead's short lived cup run was brought to an end by a determined and strong AFC Croydon side.

The first 30 mins were dominated by our opponents who spent much of the time in Chipstead's half. Despite a four man midfield Desmond, Sonny and Aidan were called upon frequently to break down Croydon's attacks. Several impressive saves from Nico kept our opponents at bay until 5 mins before half time when a lucky deflected pass fell to a Croydon player on the left who scored.

The beginning of the second half saw a more purposeful Chipstead team. However, the Croydon defensive line was able to effectively snuff out any attempts to get the ball into their penalty area.

Midway through the second half, tiredness began to show amongst the Chipstead players and when they failed to put in challenges they were punished when Croydon doubled their score in the 49th minute.

With 8 mins to go Jack took over goalkeeping duties with Nico moving to a striking role. This tactical change was rewarded minutes from time when Aydan ran on to a pass from Nico and scored from the rebound after hitting the bar with his first shot.

Although now out of the Surrey Cuo, Chipstead should take heart in that they never gave up against the best side that they have played so far this season.
