Casuals and Pelhams final game of the season ended in defeat as Foxton Old Boys clinched the league title in a 3-1 win at Brewery field. Pelham were missing a large number of regular players due to the fixture back log with Foxton having a full strength compliment available. Pelham started their usual of way of having to go behind before they got going but unfortunately for them they were properly punished by a quick Foxton start. A header from a corner in the 7th minute gave Foxton the lead, and that was doubled not long after as another cross came in eight Foxton finishing it off, 2-0. Pelham responded quickly as Jamie Richards tested the Foxton keeper with a shot. The keeper spilt the ball with Richards following up his effort, latching onto the rebound, rounding the keeper and tucking away to make it 2-1. There was some good play in parts from the home side but Foxton just wanted it that little bit more. The away side restored their two goal advantage, as a long ball over the top of the Pelham back line, with Foxtons striker just having too much pace, and able to slot home past the keeper, 3-1. That’s how the score line stayed at the half, partly thanks to some good saves from the Monk. Pelham were still in the game but their flashes of good play had to be more consistent In the second half, and that’s exactly what happened. Pelham came firing out the blocks second half and pinned Foxton back. They continued to attack but unfortunately a lot of attacks came to nothing. Pelhams second half was son,ugh stronger, and they were the better of the two teams in that period. But they just couldn’t carve out any real clear cut chances to force the game, with Foxton standing their ground and holding their shape. In the end Foxton held on to their 3-1 score line and in doing so won the league title officially.
