CANTERBURY MARINERS WALKIN 0 vs 4 ASHFORD INTERNAZIONALE 60S

Please find below the Match Report for the second game played on Super Sunday for our 50s and 60s League Squads.

60s Versus Ashford Internazionale

As per the 50s, this was a chance to experiment with line ups and tactics as well as offering a competitive game for the newest members to the squad. We should confidence with the ball and the start and played it around well however, we failed to hold our shape and kept falling deeper and deeper. When we got the press right, the opposition struggled to get out but we weren't consistent in pressing as a team and this allowed the ball to come through us and for Rovers to get in behind our midfield. We tried various things which worked to an extent but is not yet second nature and we went in a half time 2 - 0 down due to a double deflected shot and a fair strike by them.

There were 4 changes made at half time and these changes took time to gel. We moved the ball well but were still guilty of ball watching and Ashford found it easy to move through and around us. Further changes were made and setups altered to again try different things. We conceded more goals with people not intuitively covering for each other but there was also positives moving forward. Had there been more time then additional setups could have been tried but this will be covered in upcoming training.

This game has offered food for thought and will be used to base the upcoming Friday Training sessions around.
