Recalibrating last weeks experiment and including this weeks results, we have: 2 pints, 2 spliffs - zero goals; and 0 pints, 1 spliff - three goals. A pattern is starting to emerge, but more analysis required.
Onto the game more generally, we had a good team out and hadn't played Westway for a while, so it was difficult to know how strong they would be, but I felt before the game we should have a decent chance. On the other hand, they had a big useful striker up front, who has steamrollered us a few times in the past, which did not bode well.
But as the first half wore on it also appeared they had a keeper who was prone to rushes of blood and kept finding himself miles off his line and inviting long range shots and lobs. Paul and Tony with the first half goals to make it 2-0, but they were certainly a threat themselves and it was turning into a bit of a wrestling match with the big oppo striker.
Second half was more of the same - AWOL oppo keeper, lobs and long shots in to the oppo net and more wrestling with at least one penalty claim for the oppo, which I thought was very soft and was not given.
So, 4-0 win, played some good stuff, tremendous number 6 play from George and a hat-trick from Paul.
Went to the Wetherspoons which was nice for a change - the beer is certainly a lot cheaper than the Latch or Duke, the scenery perhaps a bit worse - and then to "new Ali's" for a curry and the presentation of 50th shirts to Rich and Stu.
