All the chatter leading up to the game would have convinced many that Benidorm had this game sown up before they had even played a ball, that couldn’t have been further from the truth as the Morley Mouses proved to be a formidable opposition.

The game started in the usual fashion, plenty of passion from Benidorm and after the team had fired a few blanks, Crumpton stepped up to slot home a lovely solo effort from about 20 yards. It was Side-footed into the bottom corner with the venom of a Razor Ruddock effort from times gone by. Even if the keeper thought he had a chance at saving it, he never actually had a chance of saving it. Great goal and that is where the Benidorm party ended for the next 25 minutes. Benidorm were taking a beating left right and centre and couldn’t respond to the onslaught that was the Morley Mouses.

The Mouses got back into the game when Nelson, who coincidentally was spotted in the darkened part of the car park with an opposition team member before the match, tried to skin his man and was robbed of the ball. 1-1, and that was how it stayed until half time.

After the break the Morley Mouses came out as Lions, and they quickly took the lead. A mistake at the back and lightning bolt of a shot took the ball past Lobyn Bricks, great finish, 2-1 to the visitors. The effect on the moral of Benidorm was obvious as the Mouses began an unrelenting attack on Fort Benidorm. Like an old castle of the past that has stood up to years of attacks and assaults (Conisborough Castle for example), the Benidorm goal remained impenetrable. It did take a battering though, at the last count the woodwork had been struck about 78 times, no lie, with some excellent work from Nathan to keep the deficit at 1.

That resilience gave the team hope. What happened next was biblical. Bricks launched the ball to Adams, who then passed onto a flying Loudon down the left wing. His cut back inside to Nelson, one on one with the keeper, 2-2. Nelson makes amends for his earlier bung and runs off celebrating like it is 1999.

That was it, with Benidorm in the ascendancy, another goal was imminent and it came from Dr Doug! A cut back from Adams left the Dr needing to thump the ball into his patient (the goal, not a great metaphor) and he did with style and panache, 3-2.

The game did become a bit rough and tumble, with some dodgy scissor type tackles being produced, but overall, a solid win from a lacklustre Benidorm side. A Notable moment of the match involved Finchy “seeing the game out” in the top corner, consummate professional.

3-2 final score, second win of the season.
