On a narrow, shorter pitch than normal, the lads struggled to get going for most of the first half. Play was scrappy, formation was untidy and the overall gameplan was forgotten. After creating a couple of half chances that weren’t taken, Boyne took the lead close to half time, against the run of play.

The hair-dryer treatment was applied at half time, and the lads seemed to react positively. Knowing they were the stronger team they battled hard to try to get back into the game. 7mins into the 2nd half they suffered another blow, when Boyne scored a tap in from a cross. The lads didn’t drop the heads and stuck with it, working harder and harder to get something. The breakthrough came when Darragh cut down the wing getting the pass into space to Tadgh, who converted the rebound after the keeper saved his first shot. 7 minutes from the end, a similar situation came about down the left, and this time Adam was there to drive the rebound home to make it 2-2. The lads continued to apply the pressure, in a finish with some end to end action, both defences were worked hard. The game finished 2-2, and on reflection it was a fair result. The performance overall was below par today but the lads showed their fighting spirit snd determination to dig themselves out of a hole and get the draw and the deserved point.
