Axis of Evil 2 vs 1 Centenary Stormers

Round 14 sees AOE take on Centenary Stormers who have turned their average start of the season around. The team seemed to be completely changed to the one Evil faced in Round 5. Mount Gravatt were still keeping tabs on the game with a few of their players coming to watch another game. Maybe an award needs to be award to them for the most Axis games watched.

Axis started with a high tempo, pressing high up the pitch and the efforts were rewarded early with Dom pinching the pocket of a defender and finishing well 5 minutes in. The game then became more even with complacency coming into Evil's game after the great start. Stormers started to control the middle of the pitch and the game. Frustration got the better of Cody who was shown a yellow for an infringement. At the end of the half Stormers won a free kick 25 yards out near the sideline. The resulting free kick made its way through a handful of Evil players and hit the Stormers' striker mid thigh and rebounded into the net. Half finishes 1-1.

A formation shuffle saw Evil come out on the offensive with the vision of putting the game to bed. A few chances went begging at both ends. Cody redeemed his earlier yellow with a great tackle to stop a potent attack. Mid way through the half the high press worked again and Kyle ended up with the ball on the top of the box. As he was shut down he squared the ball to Ryan who had time to finish and make it 3 goals in 2 games. The remaining of the game was rather uneventful and the game finished 2-1.

An average performance was enough on the day but improvements are in dire need. Evil bags another vital 3 points before the top of the table clash with Mount Gravatt the following week. Cody's efforts in the middle were rewarded with being named Man of the Match.
